Other things…

I also make other thing from wood – serving trays, chess boards and whatever takes my fancy. Here is a small collection of these things.

Serving Board & accessories

Serving Board with small dishes, bottle coaster and cheese & pate knives
Board made with grey ironbark, bottle coaster is grey box, larger dish is a laminate of grey box and grey ironbark, small dish is grey box.
The Board is finished with a ‘food safe’ polish of beeswax and medical grade paraffin oil.

Pseudosphere

I have also experimented with different shapes, some of which have no utilitarian purpose but are pleasing to the eye. The Pseudosphere is one such shape. This example measures 170mm x 65mm and is made from Red Ironbark (Eucalyptus Sideroxylon).

Table Markers

Table Markers for Vietnamese Restaurant – Victorian Ash, Red Ironbark, Redgum and Grey Ironbark.

A friend opened a Vietnamese restaurant in Moonee Ponds and wanted table markers with a difference. I made about 14 of these. At last report, none had been stolen!!!
The base is Grey Ironbark, the body is Vic Ash, this hat is Red Ironbark but redgum on others and the red diamond number plate is Redgum – I left it to the restaurant to incscribe the numbers.

Christmas Trees

Three trees: Silver Birch (?) 130mm, Colombian Oak 110mm, Redgum 100mm

These are made from wood for which I had no purpose ie offcuts or scrap, and useful for Christmas decorations or whatever else people may choose.

For Woodturners, items such as these are good opportunities for building skills and also putting to good use those bits of timber you did not want to throw out because they are not run-of-the-mill woods.

    1. Hello Chris. Red Ironbark is perhaps my favourite wood but unfortunately my supplier has sold his farm so no more red ironbark unless I find another supplier.
